Do you visit schools?
You bet! Talking to kids about writing is one of my favorite things to do!  I am now booking visits for the 2010 - 2011 school year. Because I work part time in the schools myself and I still need to set aside time to write, I can book a limited number of school visits each year.

School  Presentations

K – 2 Presentation (25 – 45 minutes)

Michelle connects with students in this age group by discussing what she liked to read as a youngster and sharing the first story she ever wrote as a first grader.  With stories and pictures from the Houts family farm this PowerPoint presentation entertains and encourages the youngest readers and writers.

Grades 3-6 Presentation (35– 60 minutes)

Readers and writers in the upper elementary grades will enjoy hearing about Michelle’s experiences while writing and editing her middle-grade novel.  A humorous comparison between writing and raising cattle will amuse students while giving them insight into their own writing habits.

Grades 6-8 Presentation (35–65 minutes)

Middle school students will enjoy hearing how Michelle develops ideas for her middle grade novels and how the editing process shapes a story. Options at this grade level may include activities such as character grids and six-word biographies.

Family Presentation  (90 minutes)

This parent-child event has been receiving rave reviews from parents, teacher, principals, and most especially children! An evening program provides a brief presentation by the author, and then allows time for families to create their own story.

What is your fee?
Fees are based upon distance from my Ohio home, length of my visit, and number of presentations.  Generally, a full day visit (up to 5 daytime presentations) is $600 plus travel expenses (mileage, lodging, and meals).  Additional presentations for teachers or families may be added on.  Please feel free to send me an e-mail and we can discuss the details.

Do you do other public appearances besides school visits?
Sure!  I’m available for library presentations, book store events, book signings, etc.  Check the Calendar of Events in the window pane above to see where I’ll be next.
